Concert to kick off food drive benefitting Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank

Akron—On Saturday, March 14 at the University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall, guest conductor Daniel Hege will make his Akron debut leading the Akron Symphony Orchestra through a colorful program featuring Beethoven’s buoyant Symphony No. 7. Also heard will be Michael Daugherty’s Red Cape Tango—the final movement in the composer’s musical tribute to comic legend Superman and his ultimate fight to the death with the villainous Doomsday. Other works on the program include Berlioz’s Rob Roy Overture and Falla’s The Three Cornered Hat: 2nd suite. Read more

National Food Drive Inspired by the Upcoming Film The Soloist

Akron— The Akron Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will participate in Orchestras Feeding America, the first national food drive by America’s symphony orchestras. The Akron Symphony’s musicians, staff members, and volunteers will collect non-perishable food items at the March 14 and March 29 concerts in the lobbies of E.J. Thomas Hall at the University of Akron. The food will be donated to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. For information about the types of food that can be accepted go to AkronSymphony.org/fooddrive. Those who donate will receive a special $5.00 coupon good toward a future Akron Symphony ticket purchase. Read more

The Mayor And The Maestro

Maestro Christopher Wilkins, Leianne Neff Heppner (Curator, Summit County Historical Society) and David Jennings (Executive Director, Akron-Summit County Public Library) joined Mayor Donald Plusquellic in a press conference Monday morning detailing this Thursday’s thrilling conclusion to the community-wide Lincoln Celebration, which began last week with the two concerts in the Downtown Main Library auditorium and included photos and artifacts from the archives of the Summit County Historical Society.

During the news conference, Mayor Plusquellic called Thursday’s A Lincoln Portrait concert “an important event in this community.” Plusquellic went on to compliment Maestro Wilkins stating that the concert is “one more way that he has brought the Symphony to every day people.”

February 14 concert now to be held May 16 at Akron Civic Theatre

Akron—The Akron Symphony’s February 14 Pops concert, Simply Sinatra with Steve Lippa, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 16. The rescheduled concert will be held at the Akron Civic Theatre and not The University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall. The new date coincides with the Symphony’s annual gala fundraiser, Fanfare. simplysinatra180Due to circumstances beyond our control, the February 14 Pops concert, Simply Sinatra with Steve Lippa, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 16. The rescheduled concert will now be held at the Akron Civic Theatre and not The University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall. The new date also now coincides with the Symphony’s annual gala fundraiser, Fanfare.

Those who have already purchased tickets for February 14 should contact our ticket office at (330) 535-8131 for instructions on exchanging them for the new date. There is no charge for exchanging the tickets and full refunds are also available upon patron request.

We apologize for any inconvenience and are thrilled that we were able to work with Mr. Lippia in rescheduling the event.
