Akron Symphony Begins Year With All Mozart, January 16

Akron—The Akron Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will begin the New Year with a concert celebrating beloved composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at three different stages in his life on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. All Mozart will include the overture to Lucio Silla, Sinfonia concertante in E-flat for winds, and close with Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter.” ASO Music Director Christopher Wilkins will share the podium with Associate Conductor Christopher James Lees and Akron Symphony musicians Marie Tachouet (flute), Terry Orcutt (oboe), Todd Jelen (bassoon), and Scott Bohannon (horn) will be featured soloists during the Sinfonia concertante.

Akron Symphony’s Holidays Pops To Light Up EJ Thomas December 18

Concert to feature Orchestra, Chorus, and special guests Jennifer Jones, Matthew Fiedler—and Santa Claus!
Pre and post-concert activities planned, including instrument petting zoo and free candy canes for kids
Akron—The Akron Symphony’s 2009-2010 Pops Series continues with annual favorite Holiday Pops—one night only—on Friday, December 18 at The University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall at 7:30 PM.
Under the direction of Hugh Ferguson Floyd, the Akron Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will celebrate the holiday season in a garland of traditional favorites from We Need a Little Christmas and Sleigh Ride to a “festive” Hanukkah medley and selections from The Nutcracker. Guest vocalist Jennifer Jones and “drummer boy” Matthew Fiedler will also perform, plus a sing-along finale led by special guest: Santa Claus!
Pre-concert activities, including the instrument “petting zoo,” begin at 6:30 PM in the E.J. Thomas lobbies. Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras to take advantage of photo opportunities with Santa and free candy canes for the kids after the concert.
