Dee Perry shares her conversation with paleontologist and host of PBS Kids Dinosaur Train – Dr. Scott Sampson – who speaks Friday night at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History for the Explorer Series. Plus, Akron Symphony music director Christopher Wilkins spotlights the annual Gospel Meets Symphony concert happening this weekend. And, Dee welcomes Cleveland School of the Arts student and current Bill T. Jones dancer, Antonio Brown, along with his mentor Bill Wade.

Floyd Resigns From Akron Symphony Chorus Director Post

Akron—After leading the Akron Symphony Chorus for two years, Dr. Hugh Ferguson Floyd has announced that he will resign his position as Chorus Director at the end of the current concert season. Floyd, who also leaves his post as Associate Professor of Choral Conducting and Director of Choral Activities at Oberlin College, will assume his new role as Coordinator of Choral Ensembles and Director of the Furman Singers at Furman University (his alma mater) in Greenville, South Carolina, beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year.

Akron Youth Symphony To Perform At Ohio Teacher’s Conference This Month

Akron—The Greater Akron Musical Association (GAMA) is pleased to announce that the Akron Youth Symphony (AYS), under the direction of Christopher James Lees, has been chosen to perform at the Ohio Music Educators Association (OMEA) state conference, January 28-30 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The AYS was selected from over 120 applicants to represent youth orchestras to Ohio’s music teachers. While in Cincinnati, the AYS will also participate in a first-ever side-by-side rehearsal with the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO). GAMA has committed matching travel funds to the transportation costs associated with the AYS trip initiative.

Akron—The legacy continues as the Akron Symphony presents the 17th annual Gospel Meets Symphony concert—one night only—Saturday, January 30 at 7:30 PM at The University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall. Under the direction of Maestro Christopher Wilkins, Gospel Meets Symphony blends soloists, the Akron Symphony Orchestra (ASO), and a 200-voice gospel choir into one of Akron’s most celebrated and longest running cultural events.
