Akron Symphony Board of Trustees Welcomes New Members and Officers at Annual Meeting

AKRON—The Greater Akron Musical Association (GAMA) held its annual meeting and dinner on Wednesday, May 19 at Fairlawn Country Club. Over seventy-five GAMA Trustees and Advisory Board members were in attendance. After dinner, guests were updated on the status of the organization by President Thomas J. Clark, Executive Director Phil Walz, Music Director Christopher Wilkins, GAMA Foundation President, Charles A. Peter, M.D., Akron Symphony Guild President Madeline Bozzelli, and GAMA Executive Vice President, Ted Good. Read more

Maria Sensi Sellner Named Akron Symphony Chorus Director

AKRON—After a three-month search, the Akron Symphony is pleased to announce the appointment of Maria Sensi Sellner as Akron Symphony Chorus Director.

Ms Sellner (a Pittsburgh, PA native) was the Assistant Conductor for recent productions of Bizet’s Carmen and Verdi’s Otello with Opera Carolina. She has been the Music Director of the All University Orchestra and String Theory Chamber Orchestra at Carnegie Mellon University for the past eight seasons, and she also serves as a conducting assistant for the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, the chorus of choice of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She has graduate degrees in conducting (a student of Robert Page), composition, and engineering, all from Carnegie Mellon.

Ms. Sellner assumes the position from Dr. Hugh Ferguson Floyd who announced his resignation at the end of January. Read more
