News Release: 2011 Lakes Tour

AKRON—The Akron Symphony Guild will host its “Lakes Tour” of homes on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. The annual boat cruise and tour of unique homes along the Portage Lakes includes four homes this year, plus a spectacular garden and boat house. Guests are transported by a fleet of pontoon boats driven by experienced “captains” before receiving a guided tour of each home. The tour will depart from The Olde Harbor Inn at 10 AM. Earlier boarding times and a catered patron brunch are available for those buying tickets at the “Ensign” and “Captain” levels. All tourists will receive light refreshments and bottled water. Ayers Wins “American Prize”

Composer Jesse Ayers has won The American Prize in Composition (Orchestral Division) 2011 for The Passion of John Brown, commissioned by the Akron Symphony Orchestra, Christopher Wilkins, music director. The American Prize is a series of new, non-profit, national competitions unique in scope and structure, designed to recognize and reward the very best performing artists, ensembles and composers in the United States based on recorded performances. The Akron Symphony Guild will hold its annual boat tour of beautiful and unique homes along the Portage Lakes on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. This year, the tour will include four homes and a spectacular garden. A catered reception, early boarding, and a signature “2011 Tour” sun catcher are available for patrons at the “Captain” level.
