Thomas Resnick, Director, Greater Akron Youth Philharmonic
Thomas Resnick is Assistant Director of Orchestras for the Twinsburg City Schools. His duties include co-directing the Dodge Intermediate School Orchestras, as well as working with the Twinsburg High School Orchestra and Symphony. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education (while fulfilling requirements for the Bachelor’s in Trumpet Performance and the Bachelor’s in Jazz Studies) and his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance (while fulfilling requirements for the Master of Arts in Conducting) from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University. Thomas has also served as Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Youngstown State University. An active performer, Thomas currently holds the Second Trumpet chair of the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra and performs with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra. He has been a touring member and soloist of “The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra” (featuring the legendary Buddy Morrow). Thomas is an avid soloist and freelancer, and has shared the stage with Gary Puckett, Ben Vereen, Parliament/Funkadelic, Bernie Worrell and the WOO Warriors, Phil Keaggy and Glass Harp, the Jeff Lorber Band, J. Giles, Linda Eder, Olivia Newton-John, ZZ Top, Kansas, Ted Nugent, Andre Watts, Crystal Gayle, Gary Karr, Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid) and Al Jarreau. He is an avid clinician at OMEA events, speaking on his work with adapted music. His hobbies include cooking, fishing, writing and arranging music and watching football and hockey. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he currently resides in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Thomas is serving in his fourth season as co-director of the Akron Youth Philharmonic.
